For me, this image is an attempt to delicately balance the light coming from the tattoo shop window, with the fading light of the evening sky. The negative space above the alleyway is every bit as important as the warmth of the neon in the window. This is the kind of scene that one only seems to find on a spring or summer night, when the light of twilight seems to linger warmly on the horizon. This particular scene was taken last spring on Tenth Street, just across the street from Tiger Tattoo.
