Post Dawdling

A summer sunset provides the quintessential backdrop to the start of the evening's festivities as the participants in the 2015 Boone Dawdle bike ride relax and congregate on the hill at Les Bourgeois Winery.

Purdin Mercantile Company

I took a day off work and drove 125 miles to reach this building.  I remember first seeing it during a photography trip in 2010, and I have been enchanted by the prospect of coming back to photograph it ever since then.  The painted signs, advertising groceries, hardware, furnishings, clothing, shoes, and other miscellaneous goods, still stand in strong, easily-legible relief against the brick front of the building, preserved by the fact that the front of the building faces north and is therefore perpetually in shadow.  Purdin, Missouri is north of Linneus, a misspelled attribution to the notable botanist and father of binomial nomenclature Carl Linnaeus.  Linneus is north of Laclede, and Laclede is just north of Highway 36.  And yes, I'd like to go back and photograph this structure again.

La Plata Lumber Company

The venerable La Plata Lumber Company edifice, up in La Plata, Missouri.  Seems like I find something to photograph each time I am up there.

Postal, Missouri

The lingering remains of a small town called Postal, Missouri.  The only building left shows the classic false front architectural style that was so very popular on early buildings in the American west and middle-west.  Along Highway Z in what I believe is the western edge of Saline County.

Night Laundry

A laundry on the island of Isla Mujeres.  Once again, not Missouri.

Grocery Store, Otterville

At the risk of sounding homespun and folksy, I had a very satisfying turkey sandwich here, accompanied by a bag of Backer's potato chips and a house-brewed iced tea.  An ideal lunch for a day of photography in central Missouri.  I don't photograph many interiors, especially in functioning businesses like this, but this place deserved it, and the proprietor didn't mind.  In case anyone is interested in relocating to Otterville, she did mention that she wouldn't mind selling for the right price.

Creating the Festival

At the Lab, design and build work has already begun for the 2015 True/False Film Festival.

On the Road Again

I've been photographing along some of the vestiges of old highway 40 again, primarily between Marshall Junction and Kingdom City.  This is a very well-preserved garage in Callaway County.

The right tool for the job

Only the outlines remain of what was once a very useful wall.  This was taken in a deteriorating machine shed next door to a barn in southern Indiana.  A little holiday travel has once again caused me to cheat on the original mission of the blog, which was color imagery from Missouri.
