Grocery Store, Otterville

At the risk of sounding homespun and folksy, I had a very satisfying turkey sandwich here, accompanied by a bag of Backer's potato chips and a house-brewed iced tea.  An ideal lunch for a day of photography in central Missouri.  I don't photograph many interiors, especially in functioning businesses like this, but this place deserved it, and the proprietor didn't mind.  In case anyone is interested in relocating to Otterville, she did mention that she wouldn't mind selling for the right price.

On the Road Again

I've been photographing along some of the vestiges of old highway 40 again, primarily between Marshall Junction and Kingdom City.  This is a very well-preserved garage in Callaway County.

The right tool for the job

Only the outlines remain of what was once a very useful wall.  This was taken in a deteriorating machine shed next door to a barn in southern Indiana.  A little holiday travel has once again caused me to cheat on the original mission of the blog, which was color imagery from Missouri.

Chong's Oriental Market

I always felt like the essence of Chong's eluded my camera.  The subtle magic of the building's curvature, the enigmatic quality of the block glass windows, the hand painted sign that seemed to belong to a movie set back alley...I was always searching for the perfect vantage point from which to frame it.  It was difficult to convey the curvature while also hinting at the other buildings rising just beyond.  This spot on Seventh Street comes close to achieving the goal.  I'm glad that I took this when I did, as the spot is now dominated by a hole in the ground and the fury of inane construction.  I think Chong's has plans to move.
